I dont remember getting older, when did they?

Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?

I don't remember growing older
When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he get to be so tall?

Wasn't it yesterday
When they were small?

I can't believe how rapidly things are changing. Last weekend my daughter went to check out her first college. Somehow that just seems wrong. Wasn't it yesterday that we were filling out the paperwork to get her into the private grade school that she went to? I realize that she is just a freshman and that getting to check out colleges early is a good thing but somehow it just seems wrong. She is growing up so fast. She is now almost as tall as I am. There are times when I turn around and catch the sight of her and I honestly think "WOW, she is changing so much and she is turning in to such a beautiful young lady". I also believe that she is probably smarter than I am, though I will not admit to that. She has just qualified for Academic Olympics. Apparently they will be practicing twice a week for the next two weeks to prepare for this event. I think it is probably similar to Knowledge Bowl that I was involved in as high schooler. She seems to be involved in a lot of the same things I was as a kid; school plays, science club, band/orchestra, and FCCLA (in my day it was FHA). She is fortunate to have a lot of advantages that I did not such as Upward Bound.

Meanwhile my darling little niece is now 20! When did this happen. She also has a real job, she is now working for AT&T. She has a 401K, health insurance and all the other good things that go with a real job. Yeah Ashley!!

Two of my close friends have children that I have watched grow up that are now graduating high school this year. It seems like just the other day that they were all playing outside on the swing sets.

The one that really blows my mind however is the my young friend Si. Si is an awesome kid. When my husband started seminary Si, who at the time was close to a foot taller than me and extremely wiry in build, used to call me "mommy" used to hang with the seminarians and watch movies and play board games. Si is a lot of fun and I truly enjoyed getting to know him. Si is now engaged. I can honestly saw that I have met his bride-to-be and she is as lovable as Si is. Congrats Si and Laura, I wish you both all the best.

I just don't get where all the time has gone.
I really don't remember getting older.
Or maybe I just choose not to think about getting older.
Hmmm.
