She is in the process of getting her license and has to log 50hrs of drive time with a licensed driver prior to taking her drivers test.
I try to offer helpful and encouraging words of wisdom, afterall it wasn't that long ago that I was learning to drive a stick and killing the car at every light. Believe the memories are still very fresh.
As we were getting ready to turn a corner I pointed out that she might want to slow down and shift.
Half way into the corner I hear my kid reply: "I should brake, right?"
Am I the only one who understands the definition of "slow down"?
I replied: "Unless you are Fred Flintstone and plan on putting your feet through the floor of the car, using your brake pedal to slow down would be my method of choice".
Probably not my most "helpful" or "encouraging words of wisdom" but at least I didn't yell and for the record the kid did laugh.
It is still a work in progress but hopefully by the time the 50 hours are up she will have it down. At least that is my prayer.

Wish you and your kid all the best, Driving School here in the UK is a little different, and it is not compulsary for you to have logged any hours before you take the test, though most people will either learn to drive with family or an instructor depending of financial constrains.

May I remind you of a certain corner in a certain section of Oregon on the way to a certain beach???
Let it go already---We lived didn't we? In fact if memory serves me right there was no damage to anyone or anything and I probably saved some tread on two of the tires. Not that I want to try it again, mind you. Getting to old for that kind of excitement.
