Climbing for Christ

Mount McKinley, also known as "Denali" which means "the high one", is the tallest mountain in North America. Although there are many taller mountains in the world, McKinley is one of the most impressive. With its base at nearly sea level and its summit at 20,320 feet, it is said to have one of earth's steepest vertical rises.

Since 1910 people have been trying to climb to the top of this awesome mountain. It wasn't until 1913 that an expedition finally made it to the true peak of Denali. Despite adverse conditions it is report that thousands of people each year attempt to summit this awesome mountain every year. Unfortunately there is only a 50% success rate.

Why am I bringing this up?

My brother-in-law is an avid climber. He has attempted Denali several times but due to weather, altitude sickness, or some other problems the summit has always alluded his team.

Starting today his team is again attempting what some climbers would love to do... climb Danali. I pray for their health, their safety, and their "God experience". For Rod and his team this is about connecting. Connecting with God, with each other, and with nature. Every time they climb those are the goals and no matter whether they make it to the top or not. Even though Rod has never made it to summit, I have never heard Rod call it a failed trip. Something is always gleaned from the experience. Maybe it is something that he has learned from another team member, maybe it is something that the team has helped another person achieve, maybe it is just the fellowship of being with others who share in his love for Christ and climbing. Whatever it is that is gleaned this year, I hope that it includes making it to the summit, cause Rod, you deserve it!

Good Luck to your entire team, you all are in my prayers. Climb safe.

For me, a non-climber, I just cant wait to see pictures. Talk about scrapbook fun.
